On May 14th, 2012 at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Jefferson St. on a Red in color, Kia passenger vehicle for an equipment violation. Upon approaching the vehicle officers observed the passenger in the vehicle (Collins) toss something under the vehicle which was later found to be a metal smoking pipe. A Probable cause search of the vehicle was then conducted and officers were able to locate a small amount of a white substance under the passenger seat which field tested positive for crack cocaine. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Clarissa Ann Howard and during the stop it was discovered that Howard’s license were suspended and Howard had an active warrant out of Houston County Alabama for cocaine possession. Howard was arrested and is being charged with Fugitive from Justice and Driving with a Suspended License. Collins was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with Evidence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Howard and Collins were transported to the Marianna Police Department for processing and later taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.

On 27, April 2012 officers of the Marianna Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle entering into Marianna Garden Apartment. As officers attempted to conduct the stop, the drivers refused to comply. Officers made contact with the drivers as they parked their vehicles in front of “J” building. Officers requested identification and the parties refused to corporate. After causing a commotion within the complex, both suspects were arrested. While affecting the arrest officers of the Marianna Police Department were struck with fists and threatened with a wooden stick. Keioshia Lashwantae Mckinnon and Simone Monique Butler were charged with Battery on law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence along with public affray, and transported to the Jackson County Jail Facility where they will be held for first appearance.

On 4-14-12, around midnight officers of the Marianna Police Department responded to an armed robbery call that had occurred on Milton Ave. The victim stated that he was riding on Milton Ave. when he was accosted by four black males and was robbed at gunpoint. He said the subjects took his money, wallet and cell phone. He was able to give partial descriptions of the subjects and of the firearm that was used. A short time later, Police made contact with these subjects on Milton Ave. Investigation led to the recovery of a Smith and Wesson .380 caliber hand gun, Marijuana bagged for sale and the recovery of the victim’s cell phone. Arrested for Armed Robbery and Felon in Possession of a Firearm was Anthony Antonia Holden, B/M, 05-05-88, address of 2920 Harrison st. Marianna and also arrested for Armed Robbery and Possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell was Jeff Mitchell Bell Jr. B/M 11-06-92. They were booked into the county jail.

On 04-11-2012 officers of the Marianna Police Department came upon a burglary, in progress, of the ABS Office Supply building located at 4189 Lafayette St. Marianna Fl. 32446. The suspect had forced entry at the back of the business by removing plywood that covered an air conditioner port. He then stacked blocks so he could climb through the hole in the wall. The suspect, Lazaro Jesus Frias, was observed by the Police Shift Supervisor through a window while the suspect was in the act of hammering and cracking open the businesses’ safe with burglary tools. The suspect was taken into custody without incident inside the business. The cash the suspect had removed from the safe was returned to the owner.
The suspect is being charged with burglary for unlawfully entering ABS Office Supply and committing theft and criminal mischief therein. In addition, preliminary investigations into five other burglaries cases indicate that Lazaro Frias is the suspected perpetrator in those cases. Evidence collected at those other scenes has been sent to the FDLE Crime Lab in Pensacola Fl. for analysis and comparison to the evidence in this case. Charges in those five burglary cases will be pending the results of forensic examination of that evidence.

On 03-30-2012 the Marianna Police Department received a report from an area resident about calls from a male subject identifying himself as David Brooks representing Mega Money. Brooks went on to say that the Marianna resident had won a sweepstakes worth $ 7,000,000.00 dollars, and all she had to do to secure the winnings was to go to CVS and buy a pre paid $350.00 Green Dot Money Pak card and send it back to Mr. Brooks.
A web search of the phone number given by Mega Money, 702-330-9428, which has been disconnected, and the words Green Dot Money Pak cards, and Sweepstakes produced many hits that led off with the words "SCAM", followed by negative testimonials of people realizing that they were being targeted by scammers and quite a few that were actually duped and sent the scammers money. Luckily, our concerned citizen brought this incident to our attention so that we could post this scam alert. Re: Shaquille Maurice Pittman, aka "Kiel"
A Jackson County Grand Jury has returned a two count indictment against Shaquille Maurice Pittman for First Degree Felony Murder and Attempted Robbery with a Firearm. The charges stem from the shooting of Lynwood Alvin Coleman on April 29, 2011, at his home on Orange Street in Marianna, Florida. Mr. Coleman died later that night of his injuries at Jackson County Hospital.
A subsequent investigation by the Marianna Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement led to the arrest of Pittman on July 8, 2011, for unrelated charges. He is currently housed in the Jackson County Correctional Facility. His Arraignment date will be scheduled for April 3, 2012.

On 03/13/2012 officers with the Marianna Police Department received a tip from a citizen informing them that James Davies a wanted fugitive from Bay County was in the area of Milton Ave. and Pine St.. Officers were able to locate Davies and take him into custody without incident

The Marianna Police Department in conjunction with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement have completed a thirteen month investigation of seven subjects from Dothan, Alabama, in reference to grand theft and bank fraud at several SunTrust Banks in Marianna, Florida.
In March of 2011 the security coordinator with SunTrust Bank contacted the Marianna Police Department in reference to several individuals who appeared to be involved in a scheme to defraud SunTrust.
The thirteen month investigation revealed that several suspects, all from Dothan, Alabama, had made numerous trips to SunTrust Banks in Marianna, Florida in order to commit the scheme to defraud. As the investigation continued, investigators also learned that several subjects from Pensacola, Florida, who had ties to the subjects in Dothan, Alabama, may also be involved in the scheme to defraud. Upon the completion of the investigation, the following seven subjects have been charged with bank fraud and grand theft. Arrest warrants have been issued for all seven subjects.

On March 06, 2012, officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to a fight in progress on Harley Dr. in the city of Marianna. Upon officers arrival the observed a large crowd gathered around a red car that was sitting cross ways of Harley Drive. The occupants of the vehicle exited the car and pointed down an alley saying that one of the juvenile females was running away from the scene. The juvenile that was fleeing the scene was located and gave a statement as to her side of the incident and was later arrested and charged with felony criminal mischief. Byrd gave a statement about her involvement in which she told officers that she had tried to run the juvenile over with her vehicle. Byrd also told officers that she had no problem killing the juvenile with her car and that she would have killed her had she not ran away.
Officers were unable to get a complete statement from the other juvenile because of her being irate and uncooperative. When officers went back in an attempt to arrest this juvenile she was unable to be located and an application for a warrant for her arrest has been forwarded to the State attorney office.

On Febuary 26th, 2012 at approximately 9:29 p.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Long St., on a green in color, Nissan Altima. Upon conducting the stop for the infraction of inoperable headlight, contact was made with the driver of the vehicle. There was also a passenger in the vehicle that was identified as Korinthid Javar Hayes. During the traffic stop, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search Officers found a sealed plastic bag in the passenger side floorboard which contained 256.5 grams of marijuana as well as a marijuana cigarette. It was determined that the marijuana belonged to Hayes. Hayes was arrested and is being charged with the above listed charges. Hayes was transported to the Marianna Police Department for processing and later taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.

During the month of February, The Marianna Police Department has experienced an influx of reports of local merchants receiving counterfeit money during daily transactions. In comparing the cases, it appears that there are similarities in those cases that indicate that the counterfeit bills are from the same source. We would like to warn the merchants and public to heighten their awareness and have them be alert for the possibility of receiving counterfeit bills. The following serial numbers and denominations have been identified as duplicates in many of the counterfeit transactions: $20, EJ 78253406, $20, JB 36949532A, $20, II 23885496A, $20, EA 00211338 *, $10, GE 43091465A, $10, JK 37964349A, $5, HF 391990952B, $10, JK 37964349A, $10, IE o1111055B. These bills are also passing the "pen" test, which they are marked with the counterfeit pen tester. These bills are of decent quality and do not obtain watermarks.
If anyone or any merchant receives bills with the above listed serial numbers in these denominations or any currency they believe to counterfeit please try to retain a clear description of the person passing the notes and contact the local law enforcement as soon as possible. On 02/14/12 Officers responded to the Jackson County Senior Citizen’s Center located 2931 Optimist Drive, Marianna, Fl., in reference to a burglary. While it is not certain how entry was gained into the center, it was reported that a flat screen TV, a Wii console, with two controllers, two Wii games and two cases of Meals-on-Wheels frozen dinners were taken.
On 02/12/12 two suspicious subjects were seen at another business in the area, acting as pest control, but after being denied their services, they left the area. On 02/13/14, one of the subjects that were acting as pest control returned to the same business, this time acting as if he was a custodian of the business. That subject was again asked to leave the premises. It is not known if the suspicious incidents are directly related to the burglary at the Senior Citizens Center. Both incidents are currently under investigation.

On 02/14/2012 at approx. 7:20 pm, Officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on vehicle for an expired tag. Once the vehicle came to a rest the driver exited the vehicle and began walking towards the Officer. The Officer gave verbal commands for the driver to show his hands and in which he complied. The Officer then conducted a pat down of the individual identified as, Calvin Eugene Milton. Milton was informed for the reason of the stop. While checking Milton’s driver license the Officer received a notice stating Milton had an active warrant out of Jackson County. Milton was then placed under arrest. Milton gave consent to Officers to search his vehicle and located in the cab of the SUV Officers found a small bag containing a white powdery substance, a cut straw with white powder residue, and a razor blade with the powdery substance on it. All three powders were field tested and gave a positive response for the presence of Cocaine. Milton was later transported to JCCF to await first appearance.

On February 8, 2012 at approximately 01:01 a.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Penn Avenue, on a red in color, Ford utility truck. Upon conducting the stop for the traffic infraction of inoperable tag and brake lights, contact was made with the driver of the vehicle, Kenneth Vickery. During the traffic stop, a search of Vickery and his vehicle was conducted. During a search of the vehicle officers were able to locate a small black container which contained 1.4 grams of methamphetamine, (2) Hypodermic needles and other items considered to be drug paraphernalia. Vickery was arrested and is being charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine). Vickery was transported to the Marianna Police Department for processing and later taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.

On 1-22-12, around 5:57p.m., on Carters Mill Rd, in Marianna, Fl, two 16 year old female juveniles engaged in a physical altercation with the aggressor being held down by the victim. The victim attempted to get up off the aggressor but the 27 year old boy friend of the aggressor grabbed hold of the victim and held her in place while the aggressor pulled a sharp bladed instrument and cut the victim across her face and attempted to cut her on the neck. The mother of the victim stated her daughter received 15 stitches to the face but the cut on the neck was minor. Complaints were signed on the 16 year old aggressor for Aggravated Battery with a deadly weapon and also on Orise Tyrell Kendall for principle to Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
Kendall's listed address is 2845 Davey St. Marianna, Fl. Birthdates is 12-05-1984. The complaints have been sent to the State Attorney’s Office for review

On 01/18/2012 at approximately 7:20 pm an attempted armed robbery occurred at the Big Star Liquors located on Penn. Ave. in which the clerk was shot by one of the suspects. Moore entered the store brandishing a handgun in an attempt to rob the clerk. Moore and the clerk exchanged gunfire in which the clerk received gunshot wounds. The clerk was transported to Jackson Hospital & later flown to another medical facility & was listed in stable condition. The Marianna Police Department with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Wildlife Commission, 14th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Jackson Correctional Institution, & Apalachee Correctional Institution K9 teams we were able to locate & take into custody the above mentioned perpetrators in this incident.

On January 14th, 2012 at approximately 4:51 p.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Marion St. on a White in color, Honda passenger vehicle after receiving multiple calls that a white male subject driving a white car bearing a Georgia tag had been in the area and had approached at least two people in an attempt to purchase narcotics. The vehicle was located in the area and officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon approaching the vehicle officers were able to identify the driver as David J. Jones. During the traffic stop, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted after officers observed a white powdery substance on Jones lip which appeared to be crack cocaine. During the search Officers were able to locate several small pieces of crack cocaine in the driver’s seat and on the ground outside the driver’s side door of the vehicle. It was also discovered that Jones ingested some crack cocaine in an attempt to conceal it from Law Enforcement. Several pieces of crack cocaine were removed from Jones mouth. Jones was arrested and is being charged with the above listed charges. Jones was transported to the Marianna Police Department for processing and later taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
