Marianna Fire Rescue receives Federal Stimulus Funding

On July 1, 2009, Marianna Fire Rescue received word that they were being awarded with $100,000 in federal stimulus money and $216,000 in low-interest loans through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Marianna Fire Chief Byron Bennett and city staff applied for the grant in February 2008. The money will be used to purchase two new trucks. Their will be a replacement of a 1991 engine with a new 1,000 gallon-capacity fire engine that has a bigger water tank and pump, which will accommodate the needs of  the city, as well as county residents. Also a new brush/rescue truck will be purchased to respond to EMS calls within the city with a smaller unit, which in turn will save the city money by not using the fire engine so much. Both vehicles should be purchased or delivered within 60 days.
