Chief Hayes Baggett is a life-long native of Jackson County, having attended public schools and graduated from Marianna High School. Upon completion of high school, Baggett completed the Florida Police Standards Course at Chipola College and began his law enforcement career with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
While employed with the Sheriff’s Office for 10 years, Chief Baggett gained experience in many different aspects of law enforcement, including communications, court security, and road patrol.
Seeing a need to further his education, Baggett returned to school and achieved an Associate of Arts degree from Chipola College and a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology from Florida State University.
Following completion of his education, he then entered a different area of the law enforcement field, serving as a probation officer for almost 14 years, until he was elected chief of police on April 08, 2008 by the citizens of Marianna.
Chief Baggett began his first term on Tuesday, June 03, 2008, after being sworn in by the mayor and Marianna City Commission.
