Charges: Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Resisting an Officer without Violence

  On April 5, 2018, at 4:14 pm, Officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Penn Ave and Long St on a Blue Pontiac sedan. 

After stopping the vehicle, the Driver, Alvin Mcfarland, fled on foot into a wooded area near several residences.  Offices caught Mcfarland behind one of the residences where he was arrested. 

 Mcfarland had in his possession over grams of Marijuana, scales and a substantial amount of US currency

  Mcfarland’s driver’s license was suspended in 2008.

  Mcfalrand was charged with Possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute and Driving While license Suspended.  He was transported to the Jackson County Correction Facility to await first appearance.

 Subject of Release: Multiple Shootings into residence.

 On Friday March 23, 2018 at approximately 10:55 P.M., the Marianna Police Department received a report that a residence located on Myles St. had been shot multiple times by an unknown subject. Upon officers’ arrival, they learned that the two occupants inside the residence had been unharmed during the shooting.

  During the course of the investigation, it was determined that at approximately 10:54 P.M. both occupants were sitting inside when they heard a vehicle approach the front of their residence. Suddenly they heard several gunshots, followed by the sound of projectiles entering the front of the residence. As the gunshots stopped, they heard the vehicle drive away. The occupants were then able to call 911.

  While on scene, at approximately 12:25 A.M. Saturday Officers heard gunshots coming from the south. Officers then attempted to locate where those shots had been fired. Approximately a block away, an officer observed two subjects standing in a yard at a residence located on Washington St. The officer made contact with the subjects who stated that their residence had also been shot at, but no one had been harmed.

  Upon further investigation, it was determined that at approximately 12:25 A.M. both occupants were inside the residence with their new born child, when they heard a vehicle approach their residence from Washington St. They then heard approximately 4 gunshots. They both rushed to the front door and looked outside, but observed no vehicles or persons present. They then observed a projectile lying on the kitchen floor.

Subject of Release: Theft


     On December 18th, 2017 at approximately 8:00 am, officers with the Marianna Police Department were contacted by the Marianna Public Works Department in reference to several items being stolen. Upon arrival officers were advised that several pieces of equipment were stolen off of a utility trailer that was located inside the gates. The items stolen were six weed eaters, a pole saw, backpack leaf blower, and hedge trimmers. All of the items were made by Stihl.

     It was determined that the theft occurred over the weekend. Investigators are currently working the case and are continuing to gather information in reference to the theft. Arrestee: Windell Peterson B/M 35 YOA Marianna, FL

As part of an ongoing investigation into the illegal narcotics sale and distribution within the City of Marianna, the Marianna Police Department obtained a search warrant for an address located at 2980 Sunset Drive, Marianna, Florida. On Thursday, August 24th, 2017 at approximately 9:02am, officers with the Marianna Police Department executed the search warrant. During the execution of the search warrant, officers located in excess of one pound of marijuana, a quantity of cocaine, and a quantity of crack cocaine. Officers also located scales and other items used in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.

Officers were able to charge and arrest Windell Peterson with the above mentioned charges. Windell Peterson was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility where he will await first appearance.

Subject of Release: Shooting into an occupied Dwelling


On 08/04/2017, officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to the Cottondale Village Apartments located at 4052 Old Cottondale Road in response to a report of shots being fired at the apartment complex. Upon officers arrival they were met by the complex manager who advised that several shell casing were located in the complex, and that one apartment had been shot into at approx. 1:20am. The apartment was occupied at the time this crime occurred but no one was injured. Subject of Release: Death Investigation
Deceased: Robert Owen Brown, 37 years old


On 08/13/2017 Officers of the Marianna Police Department were notified by CSX Railroad personnel of a possible deceased person approximately 100 yards to the west of the Wynn St. railroad crossing. Upon arrival, Officers observed a deceased white male lying approximately 10 feet off the tracks to the north. The decedent was later identified through prior dealings with the Marianna Police Department as Robert Owen Brown. Upon observation of the decedent, he appeared to not have any exterior trauma.
Due to the unknown cause of death, the 14th Judicial Circuit Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted. An investigator responded to the scene and determined that due to the unknown cause of death the decedent would be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. This case is active, pending the Medical Examiner’s findings.

Subject of Release: Felony Battery

Arrestee: Donal Jeffers, B/M
Charges: False Imprisonment, Felony Battery, Tampering with a Witness/Victim

On 07/11/2017, Officers with Marianna Police Department investigated a physical disturbance involving Donal Jeffers. It was determined Jeffers assaulted his girlfriend after an argument. The situation escalated to the point where the woman temporarily escaped the assault but was forced back into the residence by Jeffers where the physical abuse continued. Jeffers took the battered woman’s telephone to prevent her from calling law enforcement. Jeffers was placed under arrest and transported to Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.

Subject of Release: Armed Robbery at the Big Star Liquor Store                                        

On 06/15/2017 at approximately 10:45 pm Officers of the Marianna Police Department were dispatched to the Big Star Liquor Store located at 2992 Penn Ave. in reference to an Armed Robbery. Upon arrival, Officers reviewed the surveillance footage from the incident and contacted both Appalchee Correctional Institution and Jackson Correctional Institution K-9 tracking teams. The surveillance footage depicted two black males enter the store, one is holding a white plastic bag and the other is pointing a pump style shotgun at the store clerk. One of the males demands money while the other holds the store clerk at gun point. The males then fled the store running south behind the business.

          Both K-9 teams arrived and were unable to locate a track. The black male holding the plastic bag is described as approximately 5’9, 160-170 lbs., wearing grey basketball shoes, light colored shorts (possibly jean shorts), a black long sleeve shirt, and a white shirt or rag wrapped around his head and neck covering his face. The black male holding the shotgun is described as approximately 5’6-5’8, 140-150 lbs., black shoes, black pants with white dot pattern, a black long sleeve shirt missing one sleeve, and a black shirt or rag wrapped around his head covering his face.

DRUG ARREST/ESCAPE    May 16, 2017

Suspect: Laquista Shanta Dixon  B/F   26YOA   Marianna, FL 32448

                 Charges: Possession of Marijuana (Less than 20g)

On Tuesday May 16, 2017 at approx. 2:21 am officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy pick-up truck for an equipment violation. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle the driver was identified as Michael Cotton and the passenger was identified as Laquista Dixon. Upon speaking with the driver probable cause to search the vehicle was obtained due to the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. During a probable cause search of the vehicle several marijuana cigarettes were located as well as a quantity of Methamphetamine and a glass pipe used to smoke Methamphetamine. After further investigation both Cotton and Dixon were placed under arrest. While Cotton was being transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility Cotton used his feet to kick the back window out of the patrol vehicle and escaped through the window. Cotton was shortly after apprehended again and taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.

Subject of Release:  Drug Arrest

Charges: Trafficking Alpha PVP (Flakka)
                Warrant (Felony Battery)
                Warrant (Criminal Mischief)

     On August 19th, 2016 at approximately 11:45am, officers with the Marianna Police Department were executing an arrest warrant that the Marianna Police Department obtained for Michael James. James was seen by officers at the Chipola Mart, located off of Lafayette Street. Officers approached James and arrested him on the warrants which were for Felony Battery and Criminal Mischief. 

     After James was placed under arrest, a search of James’ person was conducted. During the search, officers located a plastic bag which contained a white, rock substance. The substance was found to be Alpha PVP (Flakka). There were a total of 30 grams of Flakka seized from James. Officers also seized a large amount of currency during the arrest. 

     Due to officers seizing over an ounce of Flakka from James, James was charged with Trafficking Alpha PVP (Flakka). James was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await his first appearance.
